Controlling Screen-time effectively - Student Guide


Greetings, amazing learners!
Let's get practical about controlling your screen time. I know it can be challenging, but with a little effort, you can strike a balance between your digital life and real-life experiences. So, here are some practical tips with examples for each point:
  • Realize Your Priorities

 If your priority is to improve your grades, dedicate specific hours for focused study using educational apps or online resources. Be sure to resist the temptation to check social media during this time.

  • Create a Screen Time Schedule:

Design a weekly timetable where you allocate time for schoolwork, exercise, and hobbies. For instance, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, focus on homework or online research, and from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM, practice playing your favorite instrument.
  • Use Productivity Tools

Utilize apps like "Screen Time" or "Forest" to track and limit your screen time. For example, you can set a limit of 1 hour per day for social media apps, and once you reach the limit, the app will block access to those platforms.
  • Set Tech-Free Zones and Times:

Designate your bedroom as a tech-free zone to promote better sleep. Avoid using your phone at least 30 minutes before bedtime, and instead, read a physical book or listen to calming music.

  • Get Into Offline Activities:

Try a new sport or activity with friends, like playing basketball in the park or going for a hike. Offline activities not only reduce screen time but also provide opportunities to bond with others.

  • Be Mindful When Using Screens:

If you're using your computer for research, stay focused on the topic and avoid opening unrelated tabs or engaging in online chats. Stick to your original purpose and use online resources wisely.

  • Set Realistic Goals:
Let's say you spend 5 hours a day on your phone, scrolling through social media and playing games. Instead of cutting it down to zero right away, set a realistic goal to reduce it to 3 hours a day initially. Once you achieve that, aim for further reduction.

Remember, it's not about saying goodbye to technology; it's about using it wisely and purposefully.
